Served 5 years in the U.S. Navy, received a pension of $8.00 a month.
Military records also gave name of spouse, date of marriage and place of marriage.
March 25, 2002 received Bounty Land records. An Act of Congress was approved on
March 3, 1855 which granted Bounty Land to certain officers and soldiers who engaged
in the Military Service of the US. I have no idea of how they chose those who were
entitled
to land. Richard was granted 160 acres in Chatfield, Fillmore County, Minnesota.
I received a paper dated 10 June 1855 signed by President James Buchanan,
another dated July 24, 1856 and papers dated 17 March 1856 when Richard Caton
sold the land to George Melvin.
I received 8 papers in all, one being a
beautiful certificate for the 160 acres of land dated 27 February 1856.
With this information I can assume that this is why I havent been able to find the
Catons
in the 1860 census in Sussex County.

Hello all Caton researchers,
I am a new subscriber to this list.
I have recently married into a Caton family in Norwich and having researched my own
family as far as I can go at present I am interested in researching my husbands. Sadly
there aren't many family members left that can help.
Does anyone have any Caton's from this area?
I would love to hear from you.
