as well as other Caton researchers:
As a Caton descendent, I would like to throw this out FYI.
My mother was the last of the Caton line that I know of , but I have been
searching for some time trying to locate the beginnings of that line.
It seems as though a Robt.Caton came to this country in the 1700's and
landed either in Phila. or Md. I also have a John & a Thomas Caton perhaps
related, very poor record keepers, these Catons.
My family of Catons migrated West to Somerset Co. Pa, and then down through
Garrett Co. Md(I think) to the Shenandoah Valley of Va.
abt 1850. Jonas was the 1st to come to Va. with his family, I believe to
work on the Railroad. His son William H. had two sons Claude & Harry , both
of them had girls as offspring. That's where that line ended. My mother
passed away in Sept. and to my knowledge that is it.
Would love to find more on Jonas' family, but they could write themselves so
there were no personal records. Just today found them on the 1850 census in
Frederick Co. Va.
Maybe someone may have a connection to this family.
Happy Hunting
