Folks,
I have been looking at the family of Vincent Cato. The estate records
show 8 children; 3 sons and 5 daughters. However the census records
that I have for him in 1800 and 1810 leave me a little confused.
Incidently, does anyone have Vinson in the 1820 census?
The 1800 census shows him as 20010-00100 (2 sons and no daughters).
The 1810 census on the Cato homepage has him as 30001-00010 (3 sons
born between 1800-10). My reading of the census is 30010-00001. This
makes very little difference except for Vincent's age. He
apparenently was born 1765-74. This 1810 census indicates that all of
his 5 daughters were born between 1810 and 1822 (when he died).
The 1850 census has Jesse as 50 years (b. 1800). Riley's tombstone
has his birth as 2/1/1801. Miles says William H. was a minor in 1822,
of age in 1834, (b. between 1801 and 1813). Who are the 2 sons born
before 1800 who were in the 1800 census? Were they dead in 1810 or
had they married and/or left home?
One of these sons might be Jesse who may have been born in 1800
before the taking of the census but did not reach 10 years until
after the taking of the 1810 census. In that case there may be only
one son missing in 1810.
