Here is some information that may assist those who are researching Cato in
Wilson County, TN. On March 26, 1826, there was a settlement hearing in the
Estate of Henry Rieff and the heirs that are now of age include Euphana Cato,
wife of George Cato, Malvina Rieff, Narcisa Rieff, wife of Jesse Eagan, Tauris
Rieff, and Marcus Rieff, (p 261) Wills and Administration, Wilson County,
1802-1850. Next I checked the marriage records and found George Cato married
Euphana Rife, bond December 31, 1821, by John R. Rutherford, and marriage on
March 28, 1822, by Brinkley Bridges, JP.
Henry, I wonder if this is the George Cato on page 36 of "The Cato Family"
(24-22) wherein you state that he may have gone to Wilson County.
Also spotted these additional Cato marriages in Wilson County, TN
(abstracts):
Elisha Cato and Jency Anderson, May 25, 1824, Hardy Hunt JP, May 29, 1824,
James E. Hunt, bondsman.
Robert Cato and Francis J. Waters, June 20. 1824, Hardy Hunt JP, July 2,
1824, James Allcorn, bondsman.
The above are all transcripts and due to the risk of an error it is always
best to obtain a copy of the original record. There are also some Cate and
Cates marriages if anyone would like them.
