There are a lot of Cato's in Edgefield, Aiken and Lexington Counties of South
Carolina. These three counties are going toward Augusta, Georgia from Columbia, South
Carolina. Also in Richland county which is Columbia area, as well as,
Kershaw County, South Carolina, the Camden area of S.C.
You will find the are tons of Cato's in this state...........Cato and Catoe are the
two spellings.
Best Regards,
Glenda

Subject: [CATO] SC Cato misc
At the South Caroliniana Library, there is a ledger from the country store of Henry
Rugeley at Clermont (1776-1778). Indexed as mentioned in the book are many Cato
connections: Capt. John Marshall, Edw Narramore, Elizabeth Cook, Wm Cook, John Cook,
Frizzel, Welch, Love, Massey, Montgomery, Roach, and William Shephard. According to the
index, no Catos are listed but that seems hard to believe as these are all known
neighbors. Does anyone live near/visit this library?
Best,
Cynthia
