Hi Henry!
THANKS! I've printed what you sent & am going to check it point by
point! The James in MS (d. in 1830s) left a lot of inventory - I only
have a partial on that - slaves only - it's on the Cato page under MS,
but it was apparently large & included several slaves. I want to get a
copy of this & was going to order the film last week, but we got flooded
with the storms. I'm holding off - once again (!) opinion on that until
I get the info in.
I also want to get inventories on several others in GA, AL & MS, in
order to (hopefully) find some slave names in order to match up who goes
where, as far as inherited slaves since nothing else seems to tell us
much. Do you want to take part of this? I have already ordered about
60 dollars worth of film in the past month & with copies & all am
hitting my genealogy allowance limit!!! (I also ordered 2 more books!)
No one else is working in those areas at the moment & I have a lot of
info I could forward you so that we could coordinate orders from the
Family Hist. Centers. We really need some of it badly before we can go
anywhere in GA or AL (which feeds MS). I'm with you - if I do ever do a
book, I want more info first!
I have 19 people all trying to claim the Williams (the Halifax one who
I'm not sure of, the Wm. m. Massey & Wm. m. Susan) as the same thing -
the son of Henry. I, personally, feel that him being aquainted with
Stephen in Halifax would make THAT William the one who married Susan,
since we also know that Stephen was with Francis, Wm. was in Halifax,
etc, etc....
The Wm. Tar River deed is a mystery to me - I want to see just where it
was at & haven't had time to check fully. I want specifics - like I
said, I haven't checked yet, but if Cynthia thinks it's right, it
probably is - I'll double check when I get back to that line & the
folder on it! I have a feeling they were asscociated, but I want to
know where & how exactly, before I remove one or the other Wm. I'm
having to take it one little family unit at a time & check everything I
have & then determine what needs to be ordered! Like I said, this is
going to take a while to sort!
I'm also having a problem with my NEEDHAM in Ark. (or whatever his name
may be!) This may be something you can help me with there in Tenn. The
land grant given to Nehemiah Cato of Tenn.(in Ark.) for his service on
the Sabine frontier seems to match with the land that Needham's kids
sell in Ark. - I'm missing a deed, but just look at the townships &
ranges of the ones I've found! They're selling either a next door
portion, or part of Nehemiah's grant! Is there anything more on him in
Tennessee????? What if my Needham/Nelson is instead Nehemiah!
Best, as always,
Bonnie
