Cythnia and Joan,
In answering some E. Mail that I received relative to the William
Cater of the Thomas Cater family of the Ashley River, I read more
carefully the letter Bonnie posted on 1/24/1998 about "Cater letter
from SC". I noted that the writer said that the Edgefield Cato born
ca 1753 died in Monroe Co., Ala, married Catherine Collins who was
born in Va. His conclusion was that he belonged to "the Cater family
of Sumter Distrist". This would seem to be the George Cato who was in
the Camden Dist. (Sumter District and County was originally a part of
Camden Dist.) in 1786, in the 1800 census of Claremont Co. (became a
part of Sumter District) and his sons were in the Sumter Co., 1810
census. This would suggest that the William in Edgefield County in
the 1800 census (12001-12010) was the brother of George and both came
from Northampton Co., Va. With his going to Monroe Co., Ala where
William son of Henry moved, this seems to fit.
