Hello
My name is Peggy Coleman Ransford. I'm from Gibson Co, Indiana. I'm a
descendant of Green Talbort Cato. He was my ggg grandfather. That is with
wife #2 Rhoda Alley Cato.
My father was Silas Arthur Coleman, my grandfather was Arthur Joseph
Coleman, my g grandparents were William A. Coleman and Minerva Cato Coleman,
my gg grandparents were Silas Hawkins Cato and Dortha A. Shively Cato, and
my ggg grandparents were Green Talbort Cato and Rhoda Alley Cato.
I not sure about Green's father and on, yet.
I have a copy of Green Cato and Rhoda Alley's marriage agreenment siged by
Woody Martin.
The church window people are asking about is in Huntingburg, Indiana. The
name of the church is Central Christian Church. It is on Highway 64 East
just as you get into Huntingburg and it is on the left side. It is a brick
Church and has a window with the names CATO_SHIVELY on it. It is Beautiful.
My Grandfather ARTHUR J. COLEMAN's Aunt, CORA CATO UTZ, wrote to him on Dec.
25, 1947, that they would like to do this window and needed Memorial Fund
for them. My grandfather did send her money for his family. I have the
letter she wrote to him. She was 81 yrs old at the time of letter. Jacob
Banta Shively is also my ggg Grandfather. He was one of the preachers of
the church.
My Great Grandmother Minerva Cato Coleman was born in Sept 7, 1852 and died
Jan. 16, 1953 in Oakland City, Indiana. She was just over 100 yrs old. She
has several articles in the locate newpaper about the Civil War she was 9
yrs old when it started.
I would like to hear from family members about the Cato family. Several of
the Cato's were Professor at Oakland City College in Indiana and Teachers in
schools of Indiana.
My father Silas Arthur Coleman was named after Silas Hawkins Cato. I wish
that I could talk to Dad, but he died in 1983 at the age of 55. So, he
didn't have the longevity of most of the Cato's. My family tells my oldest
sister that she looks like Minerva Cato Coleman. My e-mail address is
ransford(a)sigecom.net .
Thanks
Peggy Coleman Ransford
