RESPONSE:
I am afraid that you have things mixed up somwhat. Daniel Cato was not the
son of John Cato and Jane Cooke. He was a brother.
Daniel Cato and wife Patience Harris had as children:
(1) John (m. Elizabeth Moss and they had probably a daughter who married an
Avent and died before her father wrote his will and she left as an heir
Harris Avent, Lucy who m. Jesse Hart, Elizabeth or Betsy who married Buckner
Shelton, Sally who m. William Smith and Polly who m. 1st Robert Knox and 2nd
Robert Coleman in Christian Co., Ky. She had apparently an illegitimate
daughter named Susanna born before her marriages who was a recepient in the
will of Elizabeth Cato as Susan Cato and called Susanna Woodruff in a deed
of gift from Polly shortly after her first marriage.).
(2) Roland (m. a daughter of Thomas Powell, moved to Davidson Co., TN and had
children Dixon, Sally who m. Drury Jordan, Robert who m. Mary Clark, Willie
Ann who m. William Murrell, Roland Jabez Jr. who m. Nancy Vinson, Martha who
m. Willis Alley, Elizabeth who m. Thomas Reynolds, Green Talbot who. m. Sally
Drake and Rhoda Alley, Mary and Lucy).
(3) Daniel Jr. (m. Temperance and had children Sterling who m. Elizabeth
Harris, John who m. Sally Edwards Walker, Nancy, Harris who m. Nancy Howard,
Warren, Patsy and Jency who m. John Walker).
(4) Lucy (m. Edward Freeman).
(5) Susannah (m. a Mr. Moss).
(6) Jane (m. William Walker and had children John, Robert, Daniel and Mary
Ann).
Some of the children you are attributing to John Cato and Elizabeth Moss are
the children of his uncle John Cato who 1st married Jane Cook and then sec
ondly married Elizabeth Nannie. The uncle died leaving a will naming his wife
Elizabeth and only the children of his second marriage, in name: Elizabeth,
Priscilla, Charlotte, Crissy, Jennett, John, and George. He had provided for
the children of his first marriage with deeds of gift. Incidentally after the
nephew John Cato died his widow Elizabeth Moss Cato moved to Christian Co.,
Ky along with her children where Henry Cato (son of John Cato and Jane Cook)
had settled late in his life with several of his sons. She died there leaving
a will written and probated in 1812.
All of this with many public records to support this information is in a book
on the Cato Family that I have written.
