Hi Dr. Henry! Great to hear from you & Adruain again!!!
The child you want to add to George CATOUR's line is the George I'm
talking about (would be Geo. Jr.)!
The George (Jr.) listed below is the one who's in NC & married to Martha
BEAMON & dies leaving her property in Sampson & Wayne Co. when he dies.
We know he's closely related to John (m. Jane) since John's dau. Mary
has son who m. George's grand daughter. When you compare the time
frames involved (John's grandson m. George's grandaughter) this would
put John & George at about the same age so I'm putting George as
John/Wm./Dan'ls brother. George hung out with the same people the Peter
LEEs did & apparently asscociated with Mary & Peter LEE in NC. If he
were her uncle, this would make a lot of sense.
I also believe this George was married previously to Mary POOLE with the
will in 1752. The reason I believe Martha is his 2nd wife is because
Martha is ex-communicated in late 1700s for marrying outside her Quaker
religion. Why would they have waited so long to kick her out if she &
George had been married long enough for George to have had a grown son
(John)? I believe this grown son John is the one who m. Judah because
Mary with the will in 1752 apparently lived & died in Norfolk & we know
Judah & her sons, John Jr. & George, were also in Norfolk & had the same
relatives mentioned in wills as Mary did. Mary didn't mention a husband
in her will, but that doesn't mean she didn't have one at the time!
(As a kind of unimportant & definately un"professional" aside, I think
this gentleman (George) was probably a bit of a jerk considering how he
treated the grandchildren of his only son! Wish we knew what Mary died
of - she was apparently not too terribly old since her son John didn't
seem to have heirs at the time of her death, but yet she seemed to be
anticipating him having children still. I wonder if she were in Norfolk
to be near relatives (sister & brother mentioned in will) who could help
care for her???)
I also no longer think Stephen was a son of George CATOUR - I think
Stephen Sr. in Bertie who's an adult in 1725 may be from a different
family probably descended from the early Francis CATER that Cynthia has
been tracking.
I think George CATOUR is descended from the George who came to Chas.
City County, VA as an indentured servant in 1642 (grandfather) & his
father was the George CATER who was living in time time between the
immigrant George & George CATOUR - translation: there are 3 separate
Georges on the VA timeline who had to be different ones because of the
timeframes involved. Hence, Geo. I (b ca 1620 & apparently single when
running away from Col. HILL in the 1740s!), Geo. II (ca 1655 - guess),
Geo. III (ca 1680s - guess), the latter being the George CATOUR who
would father John, Geo. Jr (subject of this e-mail), Dan'l & William.
What's your opinion???
Later!

I need a few devil's advocates here to give me some feedback on the
following:
--------------------------
ca 1700 generation:
--------------------------
*Stephen Cato Sr. - Bertie Co., NC
*John Cato (m. Jane Cooke) - Brunswick Co., VA
*Daniel Cato - Brunswick Co., VA
*George Cato (not the early one we're assuming father to
John/Dan'l/Wm)
*William Cato - Brunswick VA to Northampton Co., NC

Bonnie,
I agree that Stephen, John, Daniel and William were children of
George
Catour but I cannot figure out who the George is you are referring to
in above list. Where did he live? What records are there relating to
him? Identify him and then we can discuss relationship. I want to
add another probable child of George who died in 1732, namely
the husband of Mary Cato who left a will in Norfolk Co., Va. in 1752
naming a son John who later had sons John and George.
