Yes, John died in 1810, and he was a minister very early. The first record I have
mentioning that he is a minister is in 1786:
Camden District
William JOHNSON of Lynches Creek, planter, applied 28 Nov 1785 for administration of the
estate of Benj. Stogner, late of Lynches Creek, as greatest creditor.
Citation read at Flat Creek Meeting 19 March 1786 by John CATO, Minister of the Gospel.
Would really like to read the Minutes of the Baptist Association. That's where John
Cato's death is mentioned. The Minutes are located at Furman University, South
Carolina. Perhaps they have been microfilmed, I have never checked.
