Hi again Henry!
I never got a copy of the reply I sent to you on this which I meant
to
send to the list! Could you please forward it for me to the CATO
list?
Thanks!

Bonnie,
I agree it is a neat book. However he forgot to list any pants. I
would hate to travel just in my drawers.
Henry Brackin
HA! Didn't even notice that!!! Now for stray thoughts from all over
the
place on various families...
I tend to agree that James was in TN & that's part of my quandry
here!
We now have James & Nehemiah placed in TN - but why - are they
indeed
Daniel's children?? (I'm now almost completely convinced that
Nehemiah
was indeed Needham, btw - too much of a coincidence on the land
descriptions in AR to ignore!) I tend to believe the 1860 on James,
though. I believe he was from NC. Before I commit to that, however,
I
want to double-check the original census on it to see if it was mis-
read
by me the first time around. I also tend to believe the Tabitha
Bayliss
was PROBABLY a second wife to Henry in TN, but once again - I'd like
to
see something to back it up!
I've also realized that I forgot one possibly important Rebecca when
looking for Rebecca's... Burrell Sr. in VA had a dau. named Rebecca -
I
knew something obvious had been nagging at me!!! Now we have 2
different Rebecca's from the correct generation to choose from -
that
one & the one who signed with John CATO... Do you reckon the above
mentioned CATO men (& Wm. m. Sarah Massey) might have
children/grandchildren named after her??? hmmmm....
Also nagging at me is the William Massey of Montgomery Co., TN will,
page 134 of Stewart Co. Minute Docket Vol. 1. (pg. 2 shows the will
proven in court by Phillip Homberger & Nathaniel Denson) Wife
Elizabeth,
John oldest son, under 21 (to inherit all after death or marriage of
mother), 4 sons: John, William, Thos., Henry. Mentions money due him
from South Carolina. Executors: Wife Eliz., Daniel Peoples, Henry
Massey's executor. Signed Wm. (X) Massey. Test: Phillip Hornberger,
Nath'l Denson. (1790 Lancaster Co., SC census has Wm. - 3 sons over
16,
1 under, 4 dau., 11 slaves; Henry - 3 sons under 16, 4 slaves; James -
3
sons under 16, 6 slaves; John - 1 son under 16, 3 dau.; & Wm.) Are
these from the same family??? Is the above Henry Massey in the will
the
Henry Cato Massey discussed previously on this list??? Also, just as
a
side note, I find it interesting that Wm. Massey in Greensville Co.,
VA
m. a woman named Judith in ca 1750... You don't suppose she
remarried a
CATO do you... naaah!!
I'm headed to the Clayton Genealogy Library in Houston Tuesday & I
have
rather long list of info needed...
(Teri - you want to meet me there???)
I'm also somewhat thinking along the lines that Henry in MO was
closely
related to Needham & James & Ransome because of the naming of the
children we're assuming to be his grandchildren. Once again, just
thinking, but it does seem curious!
Cynthia, I'm almost convinced that the John CATOs family (the son of
Daniel Sr.) was in Northampton Co., NC... Don't know if any of the
John's listed there was actually him, but all the names of his known
children or their husbands show up there at some point, including
the
children of Lucy & Jesse HART (& excluding Betsy who m. Buckner
Shelton). Don't know what this means, but feel it means something
<grin>. I've compared the 2" thick stack of photocopies I have of
various records from there & there's just too much that says that's
the
case.
The Lyson & Sarah Llewellen that have the deed from Cato & Young in
1797
are also from Northampton Co. - John Cato has property in Greensville,
VA, along "Young's line" in 1798 (2 years after Daniel Sr.'s son
John
dies). Lyson & Sarah (or Sally) are shown as the guardians of Lucy,
Patsy & Polly Hart in 1790 - are these related to Lucy & Jesse Hart,
the latter Lucy being assumed the dau. of Daniel Sr.'s son John?
John
Cato in Northampton also sells land to Wm. Smith in 1778 who is
probably
the same Wm. Smith m. to Polly Cato, dau. of John Cato (& these
children
of John are the ones who all show up in KY later, along with another
John who apparently dies in ca 1810).
Then, there's the Sterling Cato mentioned in Genl Abstracts fm TN
Newspapers 1791-1808 Sale in town of Carthage - Court of Smith County,
25 May 1808, prop of John Simes - taken to satisfy a judgement
against
Simes and Sterling Cato by Lewis Johnston. Was Sterling in Smith Co.,
Tenn or just John Simes??? Dr. Henry, have you looked around in the
Smith Co. records??
Well, as you can tell, I'm thinking out loud in hopes something
might
jump out at me or one of you!
Later!
