Hi all!
I've gone to Houston & found the book on the MASSEY family which
mentions Tabitha MASSEY as being Tabitha, wife of Henry CATO. I can't
find where the Judge had any proof of this when he put it in the book -
everything else he has seems to be fairly well documented. The will he
mentions for the parents of this Tabitha is quoted in part in the book,
but there is no mention of Tabitha CATO in them. I also checked some
other MASSEY family books they had down there, but none of the others
had any mention of Tabitha & Henry CATO. I still don't think the 2
Tabitha's are the same.
Something else interesting that I don't think I've mentioned here yet is
that the earliest records from Brunswick Co. were supposedly kept in
Prince George's Co. To quote from the Wall Family page, "Many of the
records of Prince George County were burned in the Civil War, and this
creates a problem for us in trying to trace this particular John Wall.
Brunswick County was created in 1720 from Prince George, but did not
obtain its own court until 1732 (until 1732 all Brunswick transactions
took place in the Prince George court). This is important because with
the creation of the Brunswick court in 1732, John Walls name appeared
suddenly and very frequently in the Brunswick records. The fact that he
was so active in the court records of Brunswick probably means that he
was just as active in the Prince George courts whose records have been
destroyed."
Now, my question is... has anyone looked in the Prince George Co.
records for our CATOs??? (Or at least what's left of the records?)
TTYL,
Bonnie
