Hello Room
Just returned from Mo. and I visited the mass
grave at Greenbriar cemetary, Greenbriar, Mo.
I was directed to a Paul Stepp Sr. (85 yrs old)
who told me of the story of the grave. He said
they were digging a grave to bury a person when
they hit an occupied spot. According to the article
in the Civil War in Bollinger Co. this appeared to
be the mass grave where Daniel McGee and his
"guerillas" were buried who were killed at his uncle
Simeon Cato's house. Paul Stepp said he marked
the grave with a base of an old tombstone. He followed me
back to the cemetary to make sure that I got the right
spot. I have written the Rose city Net to see if I can
find out who wrote the article on that network and
possibly learn more from where, if possible that this
person got the information and could research it further.
Again if you want to read the article written on this
subject it is located at
http://Rosecity.net/civilwar/home.html
It is under the Bollinger Co. site.
I also went back to the Bollinger Co. court house and
reviewed where the estates of William R. Cato,
Grandison Cato, Simeon Cato, Chapman Cato
and Sarah Cato were recorded in the Probate
books but no details were available as to who the
heirs were. These were recorded in the 1866 era.
