Hello All.
I have this on George Catour, possibly father of John, Daniel, and Burwell
Cato of Brunswick Co and Greensville Co, Virginia.
1732 Will: Brunswick Co WB 1 p 109
George Catour of Isle of Wight Co
estate to wife Mary
"...if she marries to be equally divided between my wife and my children."
wife Mary, executrix
Witnesses: Batte Peterson, Mathew Parham, Mary Aldridge
4 April 1734: will was presented in court for probate by Mary Catour,
Brunswick Co
2 May 1734: Inventory of George Catour estate returned to court by Mary
Catour
Brunswick Co WB 1 p 115
Inventory by Burrell Brown, Simon Turner, Robert Hicks
Brunswick Co Court Order Book 1, 1732-1737:
Upon petition of Roger Smith, Edmund McCarty, securities for the
administration of Geo Catour's estate, ordered that Matthew Flood and Mary,
his wife, executors of said George Catour's estate, be summoned to next
court to give new security.
Brunswick Co Court Order Book 1, 1732-1737:
Upon petition of Roger Smith and Edmund McCarty, being securities for the
admin of G Catour's estate, and fearing they should be injured thereby,
Court orders that new security be given or the estate surrendered up to the
petitioners.
May 1741 Brunswick Co Court Order Book 1, p 432:
Ordered that Mary Catour be discharged from rendering an account of her
administration of the estate of George Catour for the present.
This is the last reference I have found. Has anyone any suggestions as to
where to look next? Do you think this means that Mary Catour, widow of
George, married 2. Matthew Flood? There were Floods in the area ( ha! ha!
no pun intended), esp in Surry Co Va, but I have not found a Matthew. If
Mary did m2 Flood, what happened to them?
George Catour's oldest son would have inherited his land. I have wondered
if this is the origin of the land belonging to John Cator in Brunswick Co
as shown in John Cator's grant 12 Jan 1746 of 354 acres in Brunswick Co,
south side Fountain's Creek,<<< Adjacent his own old line>>>>,
John Parson,
John Jeffers. I have never found a source for this <<original piece of
property.>> Has anyone else?
Doesn't it seem strange that, if John was of age in 1731 when he witnessed
the will of Samuel Clark, he would not be mentioned in George's will? And
that he would be neither administrator nor witness nor involved in any way
that I can find with the settlement of the George Catour estate? Does the
fact that George mentions no children by name imply that none of his
children were of age in 1732?
I think if we could pursue this, we might find an answer to the
<<<John-Daniel were brothers or father-son?>>> question.
Would someone who knows their way around the Internet see if they can find
a Flood website or List? I haven't been able to find one.
Thanks,
Cynthia
