We are looking for the children of Vincent CATO of Lanc District, SC.
Vincent seems, from land records, to be son of Henry CATO.
If we can track down his children, maybe we can find a clue to Henry &
Tabitha!
Vincent Cato is listed on the Lanc Co SC Census 1800 as Vinson Catto,
living near Henry Catto.

According to his equity estate papers, Vincent CATO, widow SOPHIA
(HORTON??) died before 1822 in SC, probably before 1820 as we have not
found him on the 1820 SC Census. His widow Sophia was re-married by Sept
25, 1822, when Vincent estate settlement shows her as Mrs. Moab Stevens.

We have been especially interested in William H. Cato, son of Vincent,
born in South Carolina c 1802-1810. We found this record:
Nov 13, 1837, Office of the Clerk of Court, Lanc Co SC
Power of Attorney
Know all men that I Amos HORTON, county of Franklin, State of Tennessee,
appoint WILLIAM H. CATO of Williamson Co State of Tenn, attorney in fact
to receive for all money coming to him (Amos Horton) as one of the legal
heirs of William HORTON decd my father late of Lancaster District.

Dr. Brackin, or other Tennessee researchers, have you run across a William
H. Cato who could be our William H, son of Vincent, living in Tenn?
***************************************************************************
***********
Because of the Power of Attorney, and his birth year, we had thought that
our William H. Cato was the one on the 1850 Davidson Co Tenn Census, as:
William C or H Cato, 42 ( born c 1808)
wife Martha, 29
William, 7
Thomas C, 6
Nancy, 3
Robert, 6 months
And also on the 1860 Census, Cheatham Co TN, 1st Civil District:
William H. Cato, 52
Martha, 38
WR, 18
TC, 15
MA, 7
But this William seems to be born in Tenn, and to be part of the Roland
Line? Could the " born in Tn" be a mistake?
We are also searching for information on the Horton family, because of
their obvious association of some kind with the family of Vincent Cato, and
because of the HENRY CATO HORTON found in Lanc Co SC as late as the 1830's
and then in Tenn records. It seems like the mother of Henry Cato Horton
might have been a daughter or sister of Henry Cato. What do you think?
Has anyone any further information on these children of Vincent? We cannot
find out what happened to even one of these girls.
There is a story that one of the girls was married and went West, and that
when she died her children brought her back in a wagon pulled by oxen,
because she wanted to be buried in South Carolina.
Are there any descendants of Jesse Cato, or of William H. Cato, or of
Riley Cato, or of one of Vincent Cato's girls out there?
