Hi all!
(I meant to send this earlier but got side-tracked!)
I just got back from Austin, Texas, where I got a
certified transcribed copy of the Bible record of
William Barrett TRAVIS family listing William CATO &
Sarah MASSEY's children. (The original is under glass
& considered a Texas treasure so you can't get
photocopies of it.) The info I had put on the CATO
page I had typed up from the Roach, Roberts & Ridgeway
book & it had a couple of mistakes. Briefly, these
are the CATO children listed (the info in parenthesis
I added):
Elizabeth b. Jan. 9, 1789
John b. Jan. 5, 1791
Allen b. Feb. 2, 1792 (b. NC according to census)
Wylie b. Dec. 3, 1795 (not on census late enough to
know place of birth that I've found.)
Rebecca b. Aug. 25, 1798 (b. NC according to census)
Claiborn b. [], 1803 (b. SC according to census.)
William b. Aug. 7, 1805 (d. before 1850 census so
don't know place of birth)
Lementone b. July 21, 1809 (b. SC according to census)
Rosanna b. May 3, 1812 (m. William Barrett TRAVIS she
was b. in SC according to census.)
Mrs. Fair, in her book, listed many of the deeds &
etc. as being from Wm. m. Sarah MASSEY, whereas it
looks like he wasn't in SC until sometime between
1798-1803 unless he was dropping down from NC &
leaving his wife & children there before that. I also
checked the Bible records against all known census &
can't find a single William in NC or SC in 1790 & 1800
that matches his known children - they're all way off.
The Chesterfield 1810 seems to match his except it
would be missing Rebecca who would be 12 at the time
(assuming John, 19 & Allen, 18, are out of the house).
Anyhow, I'll be correcting the info on the CATO Bible
pages to match the exact Bible records...
Later!
Bonnie
