Adruain,
You are the greatest!!! This links me up. My GGranfather is the Nathan
that is the child of this John and Martha. I have been thinking this was
probably correct due to the info that I have but with what you have it insures
it. The story in my family is also that John was on the front porch and was
shot by the "bushwackers".
I was just looking through my backlog of messages and found this. It makes
a wonderful Christmas present. I am glad that you found it and had just
overlooked it.

Going back over my line I dont know how I did but
I missed one of Henry and Polly's children,John, who
has quite an interesting story. John was born 1818 in Ky.
1860 Bollinger Co Mo census:
John Cato-----42
Martha ?-------35
William-------20
Neadd-------14
Ransom-----13
Caleb--------9
Jasper-------8
Rebecca E-6
Susan A-----5
Rache--------3
Simeon------5/12
Jessie-------ca 1863
Nathan------ca 1864 Jessie and Nathan havn't ben found on
a census, but after talking to existing family members in SouthEast
Mo I am confident that they know they belong to this family.
The interesting story on John is that he lived 1/2 mile down the
road from where the Battle of Mingo Swamp was fought at Old Simeom's
house. The surviving family members relayed this story to me, that the
"bushwackers" came to John's house, and the family pleaded for him to
stay in the house. John chose to go out on the front porch and greet
them. The "bushwackers shot him dead on his front porch and he is buried
in the back yard under an old apple tree. All the while that a Mr Arnold
owned the farm he would not let anyone cut the apple tree or farm over
the grave of John. Currently the apple tree is gone and the land is farmed.
