CATO and BEAVERS Family
William Jackson CATO and his wife, Edith Catherine (SPARROW) CATO, moved
from Polk Co. to Jerusalem in the late 1800s. They had one son, Willis
Franklin C., and 5 daughters: Nora B. C.; May Survilla C.; Selah L. C.;
Navada Kansas C. & Millie Florence C. Willis Franklin m. Emmaline
HARRIS & had 2 daughters: Epsie Edith C., and Walsie C. Willis d. May
30, 1962. Elsie d. Sept. 27, 1974, and are buried in the Cedar Creek
Cemetery at Jerusalem.
John Willis BEAVERS and Mary Jane (REID) BEAVERS lived at Jerusalem, and
had 10 children: Mattie B.; Luke B.; Lark B.; Ida B.; Ella B.; Ollie B.;
Cary B.; Cora B.; Elbert B.; and Ruben B. John Willis and Mary Jane
BEAVERS are buried in the Rocky Valley Cemetery north of Jerusalem.
Ruben m. Dona Bell BATES, and also lived in the Jerusalem area. They
had 4 children: Elmer Lee B.; Thelma Elizabeth B.; Verlon B.; and Dorris
Fay B. Donna Bell d. about 1918, and is buried in the Cedar Creek
Cemetery. Ruben then married Millie Florence CATO. They lived at
Jerusalem, then moved to Missouri, then later to Morrilton. Ruben and
Florence had 6 children: Ira Linson B.; Hazel Maxine B.; Carmen Marie
B.; Lucille B.; Audrey Jean B.; and Ruben Wakefield BEAVERS, Jr. Ruben &
Florence are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Morrilton.
Elmer Lee BEAVERS m. Epsie Edith CATO. They had 5 children: Francis
Alene B., b. April 1, 1935; Juanita Faye B., b. June 24, 1938; Burman
Odell B., b. Sept. 9, 1941; and Burnice Lee B., b. July 13, 1946. These
children were b. while they lived at Jerusalem. Francis Alene d. in
1937, and is buried in the CATO Cemetery at Jerusalem. The BEAVERS
moved to Morrilton in Feb., 1949. Another son, Bobby Dale B., was b.
Oct. 14, 1949. Elmer d. on Mar. 2, 1972; Epsie d. Mar. 30, 1974, and
both are buried in the Cedar Creek Cemetery at Jerusalem.
Burman BEAVERS m. Virginia Lynn JONES on Mar. 11, 1967. They have 2
children: Micheal Keith B., b. Nov. 6, 1967; and Michelle Lynn B., b.
June 19, 1970. After living out of town for several years, Burman &
Virginia moved back to Morrilton in 1975 to make their home.
Juanita BEAVERS married Robert T. BIRD, Jr. on Nov. 15, 1965. They have
5 children: Robert Kevin B., b. Oct. 1, 1964; Anita Robin B., b. Feb.
21, 1966; Terry Alan B., and Jerry Wayne B.(twins), b. Jan. 7, 1968;
and, Melisa Renee B., b. July 22, 1970. The BIRDs own and operate a
dairy in the Birdtown community.
Burnice BEAVERS m. Euna Fay WOOD on Mar. 8, 1973. They have 3 sons:
Stephen Lee B., b. Jan. 18, 1976; Bobby Allen B., b. Oct. 14, 1977; and
Timothy David B., b. May 7, 1979. Burman & Burnice still live on the
property bought by Elmer & Epsie BEAVERS in 1949.
Bobby Dale BEAVERS m. Carlys Ann ISREAL on Jan. 3, 1970; they have 2
children: Lindsey Ann B., b. Feb. 27, 1975; and, Richard Keith B., b.
Mar. 26, 1977. Bobby and his family live at Cleveland, Ark.

Alma W. & Cora E. CATO
Alma Washington & Cora Ethel CATO, husband & wife, were farmers in the
Griffin Township in Conway Co., Ark.
Alma was b. in Conway Co., Ark. on June 18, 1899. His parents were the
late George W. CATO, and Margaret Ann STROUD. Alma d. on Aug. 28, 1982.
Cora Ethel (THOMPSON) CATO was b. Apr. 9, 1905 in Conway Co. on the old
THOMPSON farm north of Jerusalem. Her parents were the late George H.
THOMPSON & Martha Survenia AUSTIN. Cora d. on Mar. 10, 1976.
Alma & Cora were m. on Oct. 22, 1922. They settled on land given to
them by his father & mother, north of Jerusalem on CATO Hill. They
farmed the land growing cotton, corn, and sorghum from which he made his
own molasses. Building themselves up to buy & settle on the old Ed
FLOWERS place north of Jerusalem, land that adjoined Cora's parent's,
the George THOMPSONs. With hard work they built up their farm, raising
corn & cotton. Alma worked their farm with a pair of mules as he
thought horses too expensive to keep. His father helped him weave
baskets to handle the cotton & corn. Cora weaved wool to crotchet and
then made most of their clothing. Making the farm prosper, they later
started truck patches which included cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers.
Alma and Cora were outstanding citizens of the community. Alma served
as the School Board Director of both Mt. Zion & Jerusalem Schools. He
was also a land surveyor. They helped anyone in need, and loaned young
people money to get a start on. Alma would cut hair and charge only 5
cents or 10 cents thinking it would help keep his scissors sharp.
They enjoyed playing their musical instruments and both loved to fish
and hunt. Alma never missed a deer hunting season. He also love to
"bee hunt", and at the age of 83 he could still course a bee flying. He
would then rob the tree & extract the honey.
Alma & Cora survived the bad years, as well as the good ones, and both
enjoyed life. They had their 50th wedding anniversary in the fall of
1972.
They raised 2 girls, Geneva Lucille, and Alma June.
Geneva Lucille CATO was b. on Oct. 17, 1931. She m. Rev. Arthur Edward
COFFMAN. They raised 4 children, one girl & boys: Paula Kay, Alma
William, Doyle Matthew, and Michael Dewayne. They have 8
grandchildren. Paula Kay m. Stanley Lawrence, and their children are:
John Eric, Angela, and Janet. Alma "Billy" William m. Mary LAWES, and
their children are: Tricia Lynn, Christy, and Jeffery. Doyle Matthew m.
Stacey HAMPTON, and their children are: Lance Ryan, and Kori Ruth.
Micheal Dewayne is a student in college at Ark. Tech.
Alma Jane CATO was b. June 28, 1934. She m. James Fred BROWN. They
raised one daughter, Joyce Diana, and have 2 grandson. Diana m. Arthur
Scott PILKINGTON, and their sons are Craig Scott, and Todd Richard.
Alma and Cora are buried in Cedar Creek Cemetery near Jerusalem, Ark.
