This isn't the George Cato who was the Revolutionary Pensioner (he was born about
1752, so the following record preceeds him) but it could be his father, though I don't
know that....this line needs more work. There are a TON of entries for George and
Araminta CATTO listed in the MD Archives online database... thought I would post this one
as it mentions so many relationships.
From the Archives of Maryland, online database:
Proceedings and Acts of the General Assembly, 1748-1751. Volume 46. ppgs 481-483.;
May 8-June 2, 1750.
No. 24. An Act to Enable George Catto of Cecil County Gentleman and Araminta his Wife
Executrix of WILLIAM ALEXANDER late of the County aforesaid Gentleman her former husband
deceased, to Sell Lands.
Whereas the said GEORGE CATTO and ARAMINTA by their humble Petition to this General
Assembly have set forth That the said WILLIAM ALEXANDER died considerably in Debt to
sundry Persons more than the whole amount of his Personal Estate beside a large Debt due
to the Paper Currency office, That your petitioner ARAMINTA having paid away the said
Estate as far as it would go (as by the Commissary General's office may appear) there
is a Debt due to the said Office antecedent to a Marriage Settlement made on your
petitioner ARAMINTA her Marriage with the said ALEXANDER, which Marriage Settlement was
dated on the 25 Day of July 1738 That the said WILLIAM ALEXANDER dyed possessed of one
Messauge and two Acres or a hundred and twenty square Pershes of Land more or less lying
in Annapolis in which Mr GEORGE ATKINSON now lives part of the said ALEXANDERS real estate
and which by distance of your Petitioners is rather a Charge than a Proffit to the said
Estate and likely so to continue or run to decay so as to be of no Benefit to the said
ALEXANDERS Heir at Law And forasmuch as it has been made to appear unto this General
Assembly That the said WILLIAM ALEXANDER at the time of his Death dyed indebted more than
all his Personal Estate did amount to, and that the said Executrix has already paid and is
Chargeable to pay more than all the deceased's Estate will amount to, And that there
is about the sum of four hundred pounds Current Money due and owing to the Commissioners
of the Loan Office upon Interest Antecedent to the 25 July 1738 aforesaid And Whereas
ROBERT ALEXANDER the Testator's Son and Heir At Law is a minor now about Eleven Years
of Age to whom the Messuage and Tenement descends by Inheritance .......
etc etc etc (they are asking for permission to sell the land).....
1 June 1750. Read and Assented to by the Lower House of Assembly and the Upper House of
Assembly

P.S. Dr. Henry, are you out there? I have lent out my copy of your Cato notes, and
wonder if this George and Araminta Catto or George Cato the MD Rev War pensioner are
listed there??
