I'm forwarding this to the list since I saw 2 very definate CATOs listed
here & thought you might like to also look it over to see if you might
be able to spot any other CATEs that might be CATOs or CATERs from it.
They seem to be confused sometimes! The 2 that I spotted right off the
bat would be the Henry CATE in Stewart Co. & Rolin CATE in Davidson Co.
on the census (the John S. Cate listed in Bedford Co. was also listed as
CATO on a later census, but from my understanding, I believe he comes
from the NC CATEs). This was posted on the CATE list:

To all the various Cate/Cates/Kates researcher.
Yesterday Sylvia asked if anyone on the list had access to the 1830 and
1840 censuses for Tennessee. By chance, I do have the complete 1830 and
the
complete 1840 as published by Byron Sistler and Associates of Nashville,
TN. I did Sylvia's lookup and told her I would extract all the
CATE/CATES/KATES and submit them to the list. There will be several
messages so no ones server locks up. This is the first message and
covers
the CATE/CATES/KATES in the counties of East Tennessee. The information
is

there
aren't many.

Key to the above. Soldier's name, widow name, file number (SC is

Hope this helps someone looking for their CATE/CATES/KATE ancestors.
