Dr. Henry and all,
I looked up Granville County in George K. Schweitzer's 'South Carolina
Genealogical Research" (don't know whether you have seen any of his books,
but I highly recommend them. He has written guides for Virginia and North
Carolina, as well as several other states.) In the county guide,
Schweitzer lists "Granville County, designated as a subdivision of Beaufort
District in 1785, abolished in 1800. Never did keep records." I was
puzzled, too, because the book I mentioned is definitely South Carolina
land memorials.
I am trying to put together data into family groups, so that I can post
what I have. The problem is that many pieces are already on the Cato page
(what a great collection of information!) and I do not want to repeat.
Honestly, as I look through, I am a little disappointed in what I have
found in NC. Mostly because I did not find anything having to do with
Henry and Tabitha, except for the information re: Tabitha Keeton who sold
land to Runnell Allen. We can be fairly positive this is not our Tabitha,
but that doesn't mean that the Henry Cato found in later records of
Johnston County involved with the Allens is not out Henry! I did not find
a Henry Keeton in that Keeton family, so I cannot say for sure who the
Henry involved with the Allens is!
In the search of Anson County records (on the west side of Drowning Creek)
I did not find Henry. But there are still so many records I want to look
at!
