I am just going to type in all the info I have on what I believe is one
family, without checking the Cato page for repeating.
This KADER/CATTER family apparently included a few, shall we say,
"sports":

>>>Same court: Col Benjamin Hill obtains an order of the
Court for keeping
a Ferry on the So?No? side of the Maherrin River. Other Hills
mentioned.
May point to this family being related to the William Cater or Keither who
was indentured servant to Hill, mentioned in earlier message?>>>
Same court, 1735 Bertie Co NC, Friday Aug 14:
Martin LYON an Offr. of this Court having made Complaint that he was very
much Insulted last Night by Stephen CADER and others and the sd. CADER

<<Looks like the stabbed John GRANT lived, or Stephen's story of self
defense held up>>>>Perhaps Stephen should avoid Alcohol>>>>
1735 Bertie Precinct : will of Wm Griffin (GREFFEN, see above 'stabbing
incident')
1 cow and 1 calf left to Syrach CATO
Wrote down this reference. I neglected, however, to note where it is from
(I can be a real dummy sometimes). It is Johnston County. Prob from
"Early Records of NC", many volume set I found in last 5 minutes before I
left in the Archives, which abstracts the Papers of the Secretary of State.
"Ordered that rd from house of John Gyles Thomas to Johnston CH
(Courthouse?) be altered- new road- to beg about a mile from sd Thomas' to
run down the Ridge between Crab Tree and Nuse Creek and Walnut crossing sd
Wallnut Creek below Sirak KETO? then to present rd." Sie___ KETO among
those ordered to meet to work on the road.

1742 Bertie Co NC 9 Sept.
Several heads of families come into court to Prove his Rights , listing
their families.
Families of Sessums, West, Gardener, Jones , Wimberley, Quick, and
Stephen CATER, proved his rights to Wit:
Stephen CATER, Sarah CATER, Winnefrett CATER, George CATER, Syrack CATER,
francis CATER, Stephen CATER Jr, white persons.
1757 Taxables for Bertie County NC, Henry Hunter's list:
includes George CATTO with 1 taxable. Francis CATO seems to be one of
Thos. Whitmell's taxables. On same list is Ozias BEEMAN with 1.
On 1757 Taxables list of Edward Rasor: William Keetor with 1 taxable.
(Same George who married a Beamon girl?)
A George CATO is also listed 1757 on Const. List sworn before Jos. jordan.
Likely same George, as I see other names (ie James Rhodes, etc) listed on
both lists. Don't know what CONST. stands for. (Constituent?) I looked
in research books for the meaning of "proving his rights" but found no
definition.
