Have found another Drowning Creek in North Carolina; it shows as Historic
Site of "populated place" named Drowning Creek in Burke County, NC. Burke
County is further West than we have been looking.
A man from California sent me this information, and he writes that "The
source of the creek itself is about two miles southeast of Icard,NC, and
the creek apparently flows northeast and empties into the Catawba River."
I found this Drowning Creek on my North Carolina Gazetteer map.
Burke County was formed in 1777 from Rowan County, which came from Anson
County in 1753. I checked many Anson records. If anyone has access to any
Rowan County abstracts or etc, maybe this is where we will find Henry or
whichever Cato was the father of Burrel "born on the waters of Drowning
Creek" Cato.
Wish I had this information when I was in NC; isn't that always the way
things go!
