After years of research still tryng to sort out CATO/CATE/CATES families
in North and South Carolina before 1800. The spelling seems to have been
interchangeable especially in the early records.. Not much activity on the
lists lately and have forgotten to which ones I am still subscribed. Will
see what bounces and rejoin and/or repost accordingly..
Has anybody on the list personally abstracted or does anyone have a copy
of the original will and/or loose estate papers for either a THOMAS or a
ROBERT CATE? The reference I have is Book A page 66, Orange County, North
Carolina. Written 5 November 1765, proved May 1767. Was this for a THOMAS
or a ROBERT CATE?
This information came from some series of postings to some of these
lists a couple of years ago. One lisitng has this will for ROBERT and one
series of posted abstracts has this will for THOMAS. While the abstracts
read slightly different. The wife's name and most of the heirs seem to be
the same. The reference seems to be the same, too.
Thought I would see what I could get from the lists before sending money
to the North Carolina Archives. Any assistance appreciated.
