I have no idea where the Cato name originated except that
I posted a write-up some time ago on Cato the Censor (Elder)
It started out CATO a surname signifying the wise first given
to the Roman Marcus Porcius known in history as Cato the Censor.
It goes on to say he was a Roman statesman and patriot born at
Tusculum 234BC and died in Rome in 149
Puzzled as to where we came from?

north Wetumpka.

A.S.ARMSTRONG has already removed here with his family, & is occupying
the CATER house in north Wetumpka. He has come to be in readiness to

extend a cordial welcome to the Captain & his family & are glad that
they have become citizens of our town.

Terrell Co., GA Superior Court, Nov. Term, 1887: Traverse Jry, first
week, includes T.A.CATO.
Chenubia News, Terrell Co., GA, Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1888: Mr. John
McCRACKEN & Miss Lizzie CATO were married on the 1st instant.
Terrell Co., GA newspaper: (need name of paper & date - date here is
close to Feb. 8, 1888) That Veteran, John McGILL, of Webster Co., was
in the city a few days ago. He recieved a wound in the leg during the
war & was troubled with it for 20 years after the war closed, when he
had the leg amputated by Dr. RAINES of Atlanta, skillfully assisted by
Drs. John T. LAMAR & J.F.CATO.
Terrell Co., GA newspaper: (need name of paper) Wednesday, May 9, 1888 -
Died: In recent death of his daughter, Annie, Mr. Alec CATO of Bottsford
lost one of the brightest jewels of his household. At the time of her
death she was aged 13 years, but in that short time she had won the love
of every one.

CATO & Mr. A. Harvey BLACK were quietly married by Rev. J.L.UNDERWOOD at

bridegroom is the youngest son of Major Harper BLACK. He was educated
at Mercer University & has been teaching school at Preston in Webster
Co.
