Burrell Cato: Col John Marshall's Regiment, SC Militia, Revolutionary War
Declaration for Widow who has never received bounty land
State of Mississippi County of Jefferson
Frances Cato appeared on 16th June 1855, aged 72 years, resident of Mississippi, Jefferson
County. Widow of Burrel Cato deceased, who was a private, Marions Brigade, SC,
Revolutionary War.
That her husband entered service in South Carolina on or about the year 1780 for a term
not known. and continued in service for at least 14 days. She has no knowledge of his
discharge.
She states she was married to Burrel Cato in District of Kershaw SC on or about the 22nd
of March 1800, by a ( ) and that her name before said marriage was Frances Lee. That her
husband died in Jefferson County Miss on the 19th day of September 1848; and that she was
still a widow.

Mr. L.J. Bowen of Washington DC is authorized to receive the bounty land warrant.
Affidavit:
John A. Galbreath and John D. Galbreath swear that Frances Cato signed the above in their
presence. That they were well acquainted with Burrel Cato and Frances Cato now his widow,
that her said husband died at Jefferson County Miss on the 19th day of Sept 1848.

Personally came and appeared before me William H. Bowen one of the Justices of the Peace
in and for the County of Jefferson and State of Mississippi
Lewis Cato and Sterling Cato who on oath say that they are the sons of Burrel Cato and
Frances Cato. These deponents further make oath that they are aged forty six and forty
one years. that they are the legitimate children of said Burrel Cato dec'd and Frances
Cato now a widow, of said Burrel Cato Dec'd. That Frances Cato has remained a widow
since the death of Burrel Cato and that she is now a widow. These deponents further
swears that since their first recollection till the day of the Death of Burrel Cato that
Burrel Cato and Frances Cato lived together as man and wife and that at no time was it
doubted as such.
Also at the same time personally came before me Malcolm Wilkison and John A. Galbraith who
on oath say that they were well acquainted with Burrel Cato dec'd for a number of
years to the time of his death and that they never at any time doubted that Frances Cato
was the lawfull wife and is now the widow of Burrel Cato Dec'd and have always
understood and believed that Burrel Cato was a Revolutionary soldier and these deponents
further swear and say that said Burrel Cato at his death left several children who
inherited their shares of his property as his legal heirs. These deponents further say
that they believe all the statements above made by Lewis Cato and Sterling Cato are
correct and true. This 27th day of December AD 1858.
