LOCAL GOLF TEACHER DIES, 81
Hillsborough [California] – Services are set Saturday
for Matt Cato, a 55 year resident of San Mateo County
and well known local golf teacher, who died in a Nov
24 traffic accident in Palo Alto. He was 81.
A native of Missouri, Cato settled in the Bay Area after
his discharge from the Army after World War II. Though
he didn't play professionally, he taught golf for many
years at the Cypress Hills Golf Club in Colma and the
Redwood Shores Golf Club in Redwood City according
to his son Mark.
In addition to Mark, a Burlingame resident, Matt Cato is
survived by another son Mike and a daughter, Michelle,
both of whom live in Arizona, and by grandchildren
Matt and Alexis.
The memorial is at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at 2050 Forest View
Ave. in Hillsborough, and is open to the public. In lieu of
flowers, donations are requested for the Matt Cato Memorial
