If you are still doing look-ups, I am interested in the Catlin families who
settled in Parke Co IN in the mid 1830's, coming there from Mason Co
KY. Thomas Hiram Catlin is reportedly a son of Robert Catlin and
unknown. His wife was Mary Gentle, daughter of William Gentle and
Elizabeth Shepherd?
Since this family lived in northern KY at a point of entry, they could have
come from anywhere. They next settled in Washington Co IN, a frequent stop
for pioneers who travelled down the Ohio to New Albany, Indiana. Pioneers
went over the Knobs and northwest.
My interest in the family is two-fold. Samuel Thomas Catlin married into
my Harshman family. The Catlins and others lived at the far western edge
of Raccoon Twp, Parke Co, IN. When the railroad came through in the
1850's, the community was named Catlin's Station for member of the Catlin
family managing the station. Second, many of them are buried at Mt Olivet
Cemetery, which was attached to the former Methodist Episcopal church just
south of Catlin's Station (or Catlin) in Florida Twp, Raccoon Twp, Indiana.
