Jean Davey Catlin, resident of Albuquerque since 1989, died peacefully on April 21, 1998
at the age of 92. She was preceded in death in 1989 by her husband of 59 years, Frank
Leland Catlin; and their oldest son, William Lee Catlin in 1988. Jean is survived by her
daughter, Laura Davey Hughes and her husband, Robert, both of Albuquerque; and her son,
John Arnold Catlin and his wife, Jeanne of Atlantic Highlands, NJ. Also surviving are nine
grandchildren, Gary Michael, Dore Michele, Curtiss Lee, Wendy, Ross and Cynthia (Catlin),
Jean Louise, Thomas Evan and Tracey Anne (Hughes); and eight great-grandchildren. For many
years Jean was an elementary school teacher and, later, a translator of books into braille
for the visually handicapped. She loved to garden and held a deep compassion for all of
creation, and especially for small animals. She will always be remembered for her gentle
kindness, thoughtfulness toward others, and her wonderful sense of humor. Jean was loved
and cher!
ished by all who knew her, and her family is deeply grateful to those who loved and helped
care for her during her long illness. We will all miss her. Services, followed by
reception for family and friends, will be held Sunday, May 3, 2:00 p.m., at St. Thomas of
Canterbury Episcopal Church, 425 University Blvd. NE, the Rev. Carole McGowan, Celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Humane Association,
