Hi Jean and Peter,
I have subscribed you to the CATLEY list, to which I am posting this reply
in the hope that someone else has some ideas. I have come across Riccall
before, but cannot quite recall who mentioned it. It is in the area of
Yorkshire that my husband's CATTLEYs originate from. I have tried to
locate CATTLEY marriages from the new site that allows you to search the
IGI directly from the batch number
at
:http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#Page
which gives no CATTLEYs at all in Riccall.
The birth is in the IGI but as there is only a film number and not a batch
number, I suspect it is a private submission to the IGI. Riccall is
closest to Bolton Percy where one major line of the CATTLEYs originated,
but it is also close to York and there are lots of them there on presumably
collateral lines which I would love to know about. The trouble is they
all moved about so much. Here are some places I have:
Bolton Percy,
Bramham, Clifford, and Thorp Arch
Easingwold
Stearsby
Wiganthorpe Hall
Kippax
Normanton
Normanton, between Hull and Wakefield is the earliest known place for our
line(around 1600), but within a few generations some lines had moved North
to areas around York but all within about a 20 mile radius of
Bramham. So, I suggest that looking at nearby villages for your John.

Your John is not there but the Sarah could conceivably by yours. It's
hard to work out who the married females are, so any suggestions from
anyone gratefully received <grin>.
Good luck - please let us know how you get on. And if anyone can help
with this query PLEASE do so !
With kind regards......... Erica Hills
Original message :
We are interested in the origins of John Cattley, who married Sarah, and
whose daughter, Ann Elizabeth, was baptised in Riccall, Yorkshire, on
February 24th, 1856. We wonder if any of your correspondents have come
across this particular branch?
Cheers! and greetings from Glasgow, Scotland!
