Hi Everyone,
My apologies the previous message - it was an "oops" - I had intended to
send it privately to Anthony. I was interrupted before I had finished
composing the message and it was sent inadvertently. This is of more
general interest <g> and hopefully helps someone, even if it doesn't fill
Anthony's needs. Anyone got any other suggestions or knowledge?
Anthony, I have checked our CATTLEY PAGES
<
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hills/index.html> but can't find
your Thomas listed in Chris Newall's database. There are a lot of
CATLEYs in the registers of the Midsomer Norton area of Somerset (South of
Bristol between Bath and Wells) but only the marriages are listed on
www.familysearch.com. Obviously, Midsomer Norton is just one of hundreds
of parishes in Somerset, but it had a strong CATLEY presence.
This is what Phillip Clements is quoted as saying on Chris Newall's
contributors' page :

I live in Midsomer Norton, Somerset. That name is not at all uncommon in
this parish. I have recently started a transcription of the Midsomer Norton
parish records which begin at the end of the seventeenth century and the
name CATLEY or CATLY appears there right from the start. The family was
also here in the fourteenth century because I remember seeing he name in a
tax return which was written in Latin from that period, although I don't
have that record here at home.
I have tracked Phillip down on the internet. I don't believe he has any
interest in CATLEY in particular, but he has a site which he (unlike me)
has very recently updated - (this is the C page) :

Sadly your Thomas hasn't appeared as yet. There are, however, 181 CATLEYs
which hopefully will help someone.
With kind regards.......... Erica Hills
