Hi Erica , Sheila ,Tim, Mick, Chris, Sharon and Listers All
Happy new Year.
First, a thought . Could it be that JamesCATLEY of Barley (? born about 1683 ?) husband of
Alice ,might just be Jacobus CATLEY (ie James) son of Gulielmi (ie William)
baptisedon27Aug 1682 at Willingham by Stow Lincolnshire (IGI batch C033771).
Secondly I know from personal experience how easy it is to misread and mistranscribe
original documents ,never mind others transcripts, let alone allowing for parish clerks
foibles and mistakes,so it can be a humbling experience to find one has made an error in
ones tree or database.Cat(t)ley Listers are lucky in so far as the name is not that
common, so thatas time goes by and more facts come to light there is a real prospect of
tying most branches into one or two composite trees. The people who participate in this and
shoulder the bulk of the load ought surely to be congratulated and to be appreciated even
by those who may find that the work exposes some small error in their own efforts. This
does not necessarily mean that their mistakes have been in vain or their work of no
esteem. By sharing results and research, successes mistakes , ideas and experience we can
all ultimately benefit.Although I personally haven't had much success finding my
Catley s, I wish you all well!
and good luck in the coming year.
