Hi Everyone,
We have recently had a case of someone on the list with an old address for
a contact. I would remind list members that it is not a good idea to
show your own private home address on the internet.
Also, with regard to posting to CATLEY-L(a)rootsweb.com I request that you
do not mention your own or anybody else's complete home address (without
permission) in mailings to the list because of implications under various
international privacy acts. I do however, encourage you to indicate
which part of the world you live in
Those caveats notwithstanding, many Western countries now have their
telephone directories online, and it is quite easy to obtain relatively
up-to-date information online about people who share your surname. I
never advise people to make initial contact with possible new cousins over
the telephone, but these directory services always supply the home address
for you to write to, so that if you do make phone contact you can both have
all the necessary answers in front of you.
This site :
http://www.infobel.com/teldir/ is a great starting
point. Here in Australia you have to be patient and go through each
state, checking metropolitan and then country listings, and business and
residential listings. Unless people have unlisted numbers (and many
people do) you can track living people with names of interest to you, with
full address supplied.
Good luck............. Erica in Western Australia.
