Hi Marge,
Good to see that you are now in on the Rootsweb net, yet another Cat*ley
clan member to boost the numbers further!
From all the information your brother Louis sent me on your collective
family tree, it is evident that all Amos' brothers were titled Catley and
most were born in the Leeds area (that will get Kays ears pricked up) such
as Seacroft, Hunslet, Kirkstall and Clifton between 1853 and 1868.
As for Amos, I thought we had agreed that the change to your current Cattley
spelling was probably an error by the US emigration authorities on entering
the USA in New York?
If Amos' name is recorded as Cattley here in the UK, it should be simple to
prove because we know his d.o.b in 1862 and we know the Registration
District as Hunslet.
If he is recorded on his birth certificate with the double T spelling then I
think it safe to say that this must be one of those "clerical errors" that
Christine (I think) was referring to in a recent e-mail, as it seems quite
illogical that their collective father Thomas Catley would have singled Amos
out for a name change at birth registration.
Have you managed to get any contact with James Cattley yet?
Regards as always Tim----- Original Message -----
