Hello Sharon and welcome
I do not have any direct information that will be of assistance to you but
I am
attempting to act as co-ordinator for this net and as such it may be
useful for you to know that Mick Catley in AU and Candise Sanders in US are
both researching from Charles Catley of Barley and James Catley of Barley
respectively and as such they may have info that would link with yours.
As for the possible Midsomer Norton connection that you mention, we
have
some researchers in that direction too, namely
Dennis and Marg Cattley looking into Thomas Catley of Welton, Nr Midsomer
Norton. Glynis Brown researching Joshua Catley also of Welton and last but
not least Reg and Jennifer Bonney researching Hannah Catley born in Marcham,
Berkshire who's father was born in Barkway which was a village close to
Barley.
I think that the Barley/Barkway Catleys are also joined to a much
larger
Tree that for many years was based at Ansty also nearby and the larger of
the three villages mentioned in the County of Hertfordshire.
The Ansty Cat*leys collectively form the second biggest Cat*ley Tree
yet
known.
Most interested to learn of the Cadley "crossover", we have
had quite a
few net members who have reported "Catley mis spellings" into
other forms
but Cadley is yet another one to add to the list.
No doubt those who I have mentioned will make contact if they have
positive
identification. As for Janet(Catley) Newman, I have not seen any
correspondence from her since my time on this net (only 6 months) but no
doubt Erica can fill you in on her profile.
Best wishes Tim Cattley----- Original Message -----

Subject: [CAT...] Wiltshire Catleys
Hello
I'm researching the Catley family of Wiltshire and until I came across the
database recently was finding it hard to progress further back than James &
Martha of Tisbury. It now seems that we're probably linked to James & Alice
of Barley, Hrts but this is from trying to piece together the information
from the database.
A message was posted by Janet (Catley) Newman on 16 June 2000 detailing
18th C
Wiltshire Catley's and we're linked to those. I specifically come
from the line of James & Martha's son Charles b.1772 who married Mary
Hibberd. The family then moved to Barford St Martin, Wiltshire and were to
be found moving frequently between the villages. There also seem to be a
large number of Catley's in Midsomer Norton, Glos, and as this is not too
far away from Wiltshire, I'm wondering if there is also a link with this
branch too. One further thing is that the surname fluctuates with our branch
between Catley and Cadley just to make things more awkward!
If anyone can help at all, I would be really grateful. Thanks
Sharon White
