Dear Kay,
Yes I rather thought you would "be back" re Normanton due to proximity and
here you are!
Certainly you are on the trail and to help you, I offer the following:-
Robart Catlays grandson was Robart married Elizabeth Walker and they had 5
children:- Edmonde bapt Normanton 1642
Janne "
" 1643
Stevan "
" 1646
Mary "
" 1648
John "
" 1651 .............. This Cattley tree stems from John
Thus you are quite correct in that there could very well be issue from
Edmonde and/or Stevan. However others before you have searched for evidence
of this and have failed to find anything. The research was conducted by a
Gerald Coveney in the 1980's who spent weeks on the case. He was a Cattley
of my Tree via his mother nee Jessie Cattley.
I have a long list of Parishes that Gerald researched re
Catlay/Catley/Cattley and suffice it to say that the most reproductive were
the following:- Leeds 1573-1770
Kippax
Rothwell
Featherstone
Garforth
Darrington
Womersley
Bramham
York
Normanton
Whitkirk
Bilton in Ainsty
Bulmer
Keithley
Barnoldswick
Bingley
Bolton-in-Bowland
Gisburn
Slaidburn
Waddington. You will find plenty of
references in all of them!!
Hopefully you will enjoy dipping into them.
I have most of the extracts for them all hand written by Geralds wife, Betty
so drop me any queries and I will consult hem for you.
Regards Tim

Dear all,
I have just done something I should have done before, and actually looked
to
see WHERE Normanton is on the map. I find it is within walking
distance
of
Leeds / Cridling Stubbs / Dewsbury / Batley / Garforth etc.. which
is
encouraging for those
of us with Yorkshire connections. I know there was a John Catley farming
in
Cridling Stubbs, as well as all our Leeds people, and Liz
Moran's
Garforth
Catleys.
This in itself is encouraging.
Looking at the Stevan Catlay site itself, it seems to me that there are a
couple of
generations directly after Stevan in which:-
a) We may not have ALL the birth information, there could have been
other
sons?
b) There is certainly one son (Edmunde) who could have gone on to have
a
family in the area.
How am I going so far???
kay
