Hi one and all,
Good to see so much Cat*ley information whizzing around by e-mail and it
certainly heartens me to know just how many other Cat*ley researchers there
are out there digging into what still is a pretty unique name!
I think that I possibly speak for most Cat*leys when I say that most of us
were not aware just how many separate Trees there seem to be at large but
the Internet has focussed this point for us all?
We all also know that circa 1500's there were Cat*leys well established in
Yorkshire,Essex,London and Somerset and that speculation as to the "origins
of the name" will not necessarily help us in any way.
Far better would be for some person to act as a "Central Register" and
attempt to co-ordinate individual researches so that duplication does not
occur? I have had some success in this direction with Pennsylvania Cattleys
who emigrated out to the USA ex Yorkshire coalfields and managed to "put
lost branches in touch again" after many years apart simply by being at the
centre of information and being able to fix jig saw bits together again.
Erica is far too busy both running the site and doing her own research in
other areas to do more on the Cat*ley cause and so I think that maybe
someone else should accept this position who has the time to think of
Cat*leys in a more overall sense and record all your individual researches
and who knows, this may produce seperate jig saw bits that fit together?
Your collective thoughts appreciated on this if you would?
Regards to all Tim Cattley

Subject: [CAT*LEY] Subect line information
Helle Everyone,
It's great to see the recent lively discussion on this list and I think we
are all learning from this.
But as list administrator could I make a plea that you change the subject
line to reflect the content of your message each time you post.
I have the option of having the CAT*LEY identifier in the subject line or
not. As it is, the computer at Rootsweb adds it automatically to *every*
message sent to the list and serves to identify messages to the whole list
as opposed to an individual, so people can then prioritise their mail
reading accordingly. If I turn that option off, it is then harder for
you to know if the message is a private one to you, or has been sent to
all
40+ of us on the list. However, more than one of these [CAT*LEY]s
becomes a tad unwieldy methinks !
I am looking forward to hearing more about Mr. J Cattley's Australian
interest.
Cheers......... Erica Hills
List Administrator.
