Thanks Erica plus Kay H and Liz C for your comments on the subject,
I have just done a re run through Chris' database myself and am impressed by
the number of people inputting info for him but I am very much aware that
there is little information therein concerning Cat*leys known to live in the
Leeds,York and Kingston upon Hull areas within the time span of his
database. Nodoubt this will be addressed in time?
As to the idea of a central Registrar:- am glad that you find the thought
attractive because with all of you focusing on individual projects, it is
quite easy to "miss the obvious connections" as it were. This I know from
personal experiance!
I have also found that in group company research, it is useful to lable
individual Trees from oldest known source location, for example in the
Cattley range, we have my own tree which I express as the Normanton Cat*leys
after the Parish where they are first found but then there is also a very
large seemingly totally seperate clan in the Hertfordshire area whos origins
are known to at least 1743 which I express as the Ansty Cat*leys after the
village by that name which STILL has Cat*leys living there!
Another obvious pedigree from the database could be expressed as "The
Midsomer-Norton Cat*leys" or maybe the Weaverham Cat*leys for example. All
who have used Chris' database will understand what I am indicating.
So, with that in mind, if all of you who wish me to take account of your
individual projects, would give a name to your Tree and let me have your
details by whatever process you want, I will attempt to record it my end in
a standard fashion.
You can send it through the obvious method but if you feel that you would
rather send it by a more closed route, you are welcome to do so direct via
timjhcat(a)tiscali.co.uk or by snailmail by application for ad.
I am NOT setting myself up as some sort of Cat*ley hotline! Not at all but
what I will do is to take stock of what comes my way and continue to monitor
and cross refrence everything and just maybe "links" will emerge ...... I
certainly hope so.
Best wishes to all ............ Regards Tim-- Original

Subject: [CAT*LEY] Research co-ordination.
Hi Everyone,
Several weeks ago Tim CATTLEY suggested that it would be useful if someone
were to act as a central registrar of CAT*LEY lines. He has now very
kindly offered to take on that role.
I have two thoughts that might further all our efforts.
Firstly, it would be helpful to all concerned if list members were to post
their research interests on this list so we could all see who "needed"
what. If you make some progress with your research, why not then tell
us
all about it. You never know you might have just found the bridge
that
allows Tim to connect your line even further back, and, if you add details
of the source, then Chris NEWALL can add the information to his database
of
CAT*LEY events.
Which brings me to my second suggestion. Chris NEWALL is continually
adding to his database at
http://www.rebus.demon.co.uk/catleydb/catleydb.htm. He welcomes new
information and, obviously, it's a good idea to check there from time to
time as it's a great place to discover folk who strayed from their
original
parishes.
Happy hunting............ Erica Hills
