Hello Reg,
All the locations you refer to, such as Buntingford and Little Hormead are
further indications that your wife's ancestory must be tied in with the
Ansty Cat*leys as they are close to Barley/Barkway and Ansty itself.
Mick Catley, Candis Sanders and yourself plus the Cattleys from Perth have a
very good chance of wrapping your overall Tree up to full knowledge as there
are so many of you now "all on the case". It is just a pity that I do not
know of a UK member of your Tree who is as interested! I have been in
contact with quite a few over the last 15 years but most are totally blind
to their history and not interested in doing any work on it. There was one
however, a David Cattley who sent me a copy of the Ansty Tree genealogy
Candis has a similar copy) back in the early 1990's who still lives in
Hertfordshire but He/I have not continued the contact. It seems to me that
maybe I should attempt to find him for you all and put you in touch with
him?
Regards Tim

Subject: [CAT...] Hannah Catley origins
Hi Tim Cattley and listers
While I am happy to share the information I/we currently have, I should
explain: I
organised a Bonney re-union in Adelaide in 1999 which tied me up
completely for a while, both before and after. Subsequently, I have been
banned - on the home front - from researching my wife's lines to give me
some time with the current generation.
That said, we know the following about Hannah and her kin:
Source - Catley family bible, printed London 1781
Hand written on inside front cover: Chas Roberts
March 1789
Charles Catley
Charles and Hannah
Catley
(faded writing,
interpreted as) Buntingford Herts
Hand written on the flyleaf: Chas Catley - Buntingford
-
1795
Presented to
Chas
Catley by his Uncle Chas 1805
Presented to
Joseph
and Hannah Watson by Chas Catley father of Hannah Watson, 1854
next presented
to
Joe and Hannah's first son, William when he married Mary Ann Witney
etc.
It doesn't state the location where Chas handed the bible to his
daughter, but
Joe and Hannah were residing suburban Sydney, New South Wales
by then. This COULD mean that Chas was also here with the bible. Hannah's
brother, George, arr. here in 1855.
On the IGI for Herts, Charles Catley marr. Hannah Roberts 20 Nov 1783
at
Little Hormead.
That's the best I can do from my/our Catley records. There is a
researching cousin to my wife who lives nearby and I have just heard from
Mick Catley to say he has some pertinent detail that helps to tie his line
in with this group.
