Thank you for the update on Mark Jnr, Mark Snr's nephew which I had missed
out on previously.
Thought it worthy of mention as he would have been 23 years of age (from
baptism year at least) at the time of the Woodford marriage.
Regards
Tim

The second Mark Catley (1773) was the nephew of Mark Catley bapt. in 1753 at
Broughton, Lincs.
Mark junr. entered into an apprenticeship with ship owner Edward Coulson of
Hull in 1787.
The record appears on Ancestry but doesn't state what the nature of the
apprenticeship was.
This event is currently the last trace on file I have for Mark junr.
Mark junr. can't be considered for the marriage at Freiston or death in
Barking because her was to young.
It does leave the marriage in Woodford, but I would have thought it more
likely to have been his uncle's marriage.
Another Catley, James Id22 (1783) the nephew of Mark snr. and cousin to Mark
junr. was a whaler operating out of Hull who lost his life by drowning in
the North Atlantic during the course his employment.
He had a son Henry who was reputedly the captain of a 'West Indianman' who
in turn died in the West Indies. So you will gather there was a tradition
for going to sea within the Kirton line.

David,
Have you satisfied yourself that Mark Id 198 son of Richard and Elizabeth
nee Pearson bt Barrow upon Humber 6/10/1773 is not a contender? I still
have him "nfi" unless you have found out more about him that rules him out?

Morning Anthony & Derek,
I've added the Pallot marriage details to his file together with your info
Derek concerning Barking's standing as a major fishing port which was news
to me and which may well support his presence there if it was him.
I am aware that besides Lincolnshire, 'Mark' appears with Catleys in the
West Country and Cambridgeshire along with Cattley's in London.
However, I can't readily see anyone from these groups who might fit with the
Mark Catley married at Woodford (1796) and buried at Barking (1801) in
Essex.

What about the Mark Catley who married Ann Harwood at Woodford Essex in
1796 (Pallot's)? Anthony

In case you are not familiar with the area, Barking & Woodford are not
that
far apart, but if you are looking for a sea connection Barking was THE
fishing port before being superceded by Grimsby, see

for more.

Can anyone shed any light on the following chap whose burial is listed on
the Familysearch website?
Mark CATLEY
Buried 14 Jul 1801 @ Barking, Essex
Aged 50 years – born circa 1751.
I am interested in him because I have a Mark CATLEY baptized in 1753 at
Broughton in north Lincolnshire, who after marrying in 1780 at Freiston,
Lincs, a parish which borders The Wash and North Sea, disappears following
the death of his wife the same year.
I’m thinking that if he had connections with the sea, he might have found
his way down to Essex?
