How do All,
To those listers who are related to Stevan Catlay of Normanton; just to let you know that
I have been in contact with The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew or to be more specific, their
Archives and Library Department and now have a copy of the letter that they possess,
written by William Cattley to the then young John Lindley in the early 1800's.
The subject matter contained concerns William having to dispense with Lindleys services
written in a very clear hand and covers three pages.
In later years, when Lindley became President of The Royal Horticultural Society, one can
only assume that he bore William no malice for loosing his job as he named Williams find
of a "new plant species", ie the Orchid in his honour under the Genus
"Cattleya".
What I have is subject to copyright but I suppose that you could order a copy for
yourselves if you so wish.
The address is on the Internet.
Regards to all .......... Tim
