Hi all
What Kay suggests and John and self will follow up upon, I think has got to
be a "First" in the annuls of Cat*ley Family History Research.
That is three Catley Tree members each representing three different known
Trees that at present have no known attachment to one another, meeting
together.
If the name was not so rare, such a get-together would pass by un noticed
but in Catley terms I think it is unique and not before time. Hopefully it
will mark the start whereby more people from different lines all bearing the
Name will see fit to get together where possible, to confer in person.
For one, I am especially pleased because on this occasion the Tree
representatives all emanate from either Lincolnshire or Yorkshire.
The bulk of the Rootsweb correspondence has involved research into Cat*leys
from the South and South West of England yet there is recorded evidence that
the name was also being used in both Lincs and Yorks also in the late
1500's, add to that the evidence of the Gilbertine Priory of Catley circa
1143 which is located in Lincs as well.
Do all Cat*leys come from one common source or are they the product of a
common place name (ie wild cat wood) and thus scattered around the UK?
We may never get to the bottom of this pool of speculation but then this
3-way meeting is at least a start in the right direction, here's hoping for
more!
Regards to all ............. Tim

Hi John,
It would be terrific if we could have a get-together..
I have asked Tim to send me his phone number and address (off list)
and if he can suggest a village somewhere (preferably pretty - I am a
tourist
after all) I can carefully make my way there, avoiding all motorways!
If you can perhaps liaise with Tim , I will certainly call him when I get
to
Cornwall, and see what we can arrange. William (my husband) isn't
a
Catley, so he can't join in, and will be back in Sydney working to pay for
my hotel bills.
In the meantime, perhaps you could both arrange some good weather for
May-June??
Kay
