Hello one and all,
It has gone suspiciously quiet on the List these past few months, is anybody out there?!
I would like to raise a subject again to see if 2nd time around anybody can throw some
light on the mystery:-
The above is listed as a private in the 8th Regiment Vermont Volunteers, No 1 Company and
served between 1861 and 1864.
His home town is given as Guilford. I assume (always a dangerous thing to do I know!) that
there IS a Guilford in Vermont and we are not looking at an Englishman from Guildford in
the UK who went out to America to join up in The Union Forces and fight in the Civil War?
I do not have an Andrew Cattley on my Stevan of Normanton Tree nor can I find a suitable
match from the UK PRO records under either 1x t or 2x t spelling and so the supposition is
that he was probably of a family who had been settled in the USA for some time?
Is there anybody who has claim to this chap or knows about a Cat*ley family in Vermont
circa 1860's?
Regards Tim Cattley
