Hello Derek,
Yes I know what you mean,it does seem to have gone deathly quiet and I also
was wondering if there was an ISP fault or something for a while there but
Erica assures me that lack of correspondence is normal at this time of year.
Thanks for the confirmation re Guilford. Vermont.
Now if only to open the American Civil War up a bit as far as we Cat*leys
are concerned, you may be interested to learn that not only was there the
Andrew Cattley serving in the 8th Regt Vermont Volunteers (Union Army) but
there was also an E.E.Cattley serving in the 55th Regt North Carolina
Infantry which by my meager understanding of that War, puts him on the
Confederate side.
Thus two Cattleys who could quite possibly have been in action against each
other! Nothing new there! could be the cry from English historians who
would probably point out that is quite possible that Cat*leys served on both
sides in our Civil War in the 1600's and as plausible as this is, the fact
remains that there is documented proof re A.Cattley and E.E.Cattley as far
as the American one is concerned.
My point is that here are two unknown Cattleys whos origins are Vermont in
the North and Carolina in the South yet nobody seems to know anything about
them whatsoever. It suggests two separate |Trees that have escaped our
collective attention.
When I met Kay Heath and John Catley last month (The Shrewsbury Three
Cat*leys) I raised the point that what we all could really do with is a
co-ordinator for each Continent who would be agreeable to take on the task
of assessing just how many different Cat*ley Trees exist in their global
area and go about knitting things together.
Very naturally most people who are on this Rootsweb list are there because
they are engaged in their own family researches and that is how it should be
but we all need to keep an open mind and think of the overall Catley
history. When I think of those of you from New Zealand and Australia and
Canada as well, I am constantly reminded as to just under represented we all
are regarding events in the USA.
I have always been of the opinion that there is more Cat*ley history than we
know about locked up in the USA and the Civil War Lists that I have dipped
into to come up with two opposing Cattleys perhaps illustrate this rather
well.
Is there anyone out there who has the time and drive to consider
specialising in America??
Regards to all

Tim,
Thanks for you Email I was beginning to think I had computer problems,
everything has gone so quiet!
Your assumption was correct. A quick search showed Guilford is indeed in
Vermont.
