G'day Linda,
I read your two messages on the Catley Rootsweb List.
My research has been on the Barkway Catleys and it is not very
comprehensive as I have concentrated on my own family line. Along the way
I have gathered records of other branches of the family and while I am
interested in the Cambridgeshire lines I have not been able to confirm any
links. However I believe this is only a matter of time. Unfortunately the
early Cambridgeshire records predate the official BMD records and strong
reliance has to be placed on church records which rarely indicate origins
beyond the immediate parish. Furthermore the Catley forenames seemed to be
fairly common so it is not always easy to trace lineages simply by linking
to parents names which cross County borders.
If you have links between the Royston and Cambridge Catleys you may indeed
have a key to establishing the
Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire link.
I am quite happy to provide you with the information I have on the Barkway
Catleys. Can you tell me what your earliest records are of the Royston/
Cambridgeshire links so that I can see if I have any records in common with
yours.
