Hello Sheila,
Wrong choice of words from my end I suppose ...... sorry about that. Its
easy when you know what you mean but sometimes what you mean and what you
say get muddled around!
What I was attempting to infer is that the Catley tree that started in
Barley/Barkway expanded greatly once they moved to Anstey in the form of
Edward who married Martha Lilly there. Although this Tree seems to have got
its name due to the great bulk of members who resided in Anstey over many
generations, I suppose that possibly the Title for the whole Tree should
read " James Catley of Barley m 1709" or something similar?
The "Anstey" expression just seems to have stuck now.
I was fully aware that not all the Barley/Barkway clan moved to Anstey by
any means and thus my choice of the words " moved as a whole" is
certainly misleading but then I did not say "moved wholly" which would
suggest a total family trek the whole 3 or so miles from Barley to Anstey!
As far as I am aware "The Anstey Tree" as of its commencement in Anstey is
taken from 1747 which was the year that Martha Lilly was bab't there.
Regards ............... Tim

My Benjamin CATLEY & family were still in Barkway in the 1830s.He died in
1837 in Barkway.
Did you mean to say 1850s? Otherwise I disagree!
