Have you read the book by the chap that has established that all men
with
the same surname are almost all related and descend from the same issue? I
cannot remember his name at the moment but he is a Professor and gave a
lecture
and was introduced to the assembly by a man who had the same surname as
himself - which got them thinking. They both then undertook extensive
research
(their story was on Radion 4 about 2 years ago) and established that by
doing
the DNA test - saliva on a cotton bud (that simple) - all had the same
Y
chromosome in their makeup - so......all you Catley men are almost
certainly from
the same man who lives by those wild cat woods in the middle ages!!! When I
can find the book which I have somewhere - I'll give you the details -
Lynda
nee Catley
It was Bryan Sykes and the study you refer to was of the Sykes families
of the West Riding of Yorkshire. But don't for a moment think that all
men with the same surname are all related - this is clearly not so.
The criteria that MUST be fulfilled are:
1) All descended from the same male ancestor
2) Descent solely through the male line
3) Total fidelity of all the female ancestors
4) No adoptions
Very few families would satisfy these criteria.
