Hi there Kay,
I use FamilytreeMaker. I'm not sure if you can to upgrade to FTM 2017
because of the transition from the PC to the Mac version. If you can, you
will have to have your reference number from your last purchase or upgrade.
I bought mine through:
http://www.mackiev.com/ftm/.
Once you pay you have the option of just the download (and a lot of add ons)
and a DVD etc.
I recommend you make a backup copy of the gedcom file before you upload it
to FTM, just in case the one you are using gets corrupted somehow - though
unlikely.
Good luck.
Kind regards
Jocelyn

Hi Kay,
I support the suggestion of Liz, if you are used to using FTM 2011 then stay
with FTM.
However, FTM 2011 wont run on a Mac, so you need to get the latest version
FTM 2017, the DVD or USB stick has both the PC and Mac versions on them.
As for B), yes, you can import a GEDCOM into FTM 2017.

Hi Kay,
I would stick with Family tree maker. Do you still have the CD then
maybe you can load onto Mac. I'm not sure whether I still have any of
your tree on my old lap top. I will check it out then I can send it to
you when you get sorted.

Subject: [CATLEY] Dear catleys
I need some help...
We had crypto locker infect our P.C a couple of years ago, and my
family tree files got locked up. Ransomware I think it was...
Before that happened, I had sent a copy of the file to a cousin of
Bill's in Cornwall..
Situation now, is that my daughter has given us a Mac computer, that
she doesn't want and the Cornish cousin is coming out to visit us in a
week or so...
Currently...I have not got a family tree program on the Mac, and I
think the Cornish cousin has put my old info on a gedcom file...I was
using family tree maker before, on the PC, probably about 2011
version...I had about 5000 souls on it.
Having a stroke 4 years ago means my brain isn't as sharp as it was,
although I'm lucky, it's not bad....bill and I both struggling with new
technology....specially Apple.
A) what family tree program should I buy for the Mac?
B) will the gedcom file work/download onto A) above.?
C) Cornish cousin is pretty sharp and he will try and help, but I would
like to have some clue, and all suggestions appreciated...
Please keep hints to a very simple level.
Best wishes to you all...we saw Tim recently in uk, but getting older
and poorer and more doddery meant we couldn't manage anything more
ambitious. If I can recover half what I had I will be utterly thrilled
and amazed...
Love from
Kay xxx
