Sorry Ros,
Communication breakdown my side. You write as if you were not aware of the
association of Harriet Cattley to a known Tree on the list.
It might be worth while looking at the Lord Lieutenancy Papers of the 4th
Duke of
Newcastle under Lyme, Henry Pelham-Clinton.
They are on the Uni of Nottingham web site. If nothing else they show
the
sort of level of communication within Government by a Lord Lt
and I did spot refs to Deputy appointments. Wrong County but it gives
some
idea. I found them useful under 5th Duke for a little later
on circa 1850's for comments on the Crimea and Charles Robert
Cattley who
is mentioned in Pelham-Clintons letters.
Believe that Leeds Uni has a good history Dep't and it might be worth
checking
them out for Tennants.
Cheers

Subject: [CAT...] Help
For someone to become Deputy-Lieutenant of the West Riding of Yorkshire in
1861 how long would the family have had to have some standing in the
county?
I have a Joseph Mason Tennant whose aunt was a Harriet Cattley. I am
trying
to find out a bit more about the Tennant family. In 1791 when James
Tennant
married Harriet Cattley, James was listed as a Broker and Merchant,
when
he
was 23 years old so I assume the family had standing in the late
1700s.
Any ideas.
